A new Wimbledon champion will be crowned as Jasmine Paolini faces Barbora Krejcikova in the women’s final for the Venus Rosewater Dish. Another unpredictable women’s tournament has produced an unexpected final as first-time Wimbledon singles finalists Paolini and Krejcikova meet on Centre Court.
Paolini has been the breakthrough story of the tennis season. The 28-year-old reached the French Open final last month and is the first Italian woman to contest the Wimbledon final, having only previously reached the first round before this year. Krejcikova will come into the final as the narrow favourite as a former French Open winner in 2021. The Czech is also a two-time Wimbledon champion in the doubles.
Both players battled to reach the final, with Paolini beating Donna Vekic in the longest womens’ semi-final in history and Krejcikova knocking out former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. Paolini and Krejcikova will be playing for a record £2.7m, and the chance to join the illustrious board of winners as the eighth different women’s champion in the last eight tournaments.
On Friday night, Novak Djokovic was booed by sections of the Centre Court crowd after setting a sensational rematch with Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s final, which will be played on Sunday afternoon. Djokovic pretended to play the violin as a message to his six-year-old daughter but was booed by some fans after his straight-sets win over Lorenzo Musetti.

40-0 for Paolini as Krejcikova can’t keep her return in play. And that’s a love-hold from the Italian! A big forehand onto the line and that’s the perfect start.
Centre Court is right behind her. Tough for Krejcikova, but Paolini’s game is so enthralling.

Wimbledon 2024: *Jasmine Paolini 2-6 6-2 Barbora Krejcikova – SET!
A reverse of the first set. Paolini took the opening break and was able to turn the momentum around. Some crucial moments there, but that fourth game as Paolini saved break point to hold, picking herself off the grass, looks key.
She is attempting to win the final from a set down, after also doing that in the semi-final.
Krejcikova heads off court, which is what Paolini did after the first set.

Wimbledon 2024: Jasmine Paolini 2-6 5-2 Barbora Krejcikova*
Amazing point! Paolini somehow picks up the volley from Krejcikova and steadies before firing the forehand winner! Krejcikova then closed the net but put her volley out and it’s 30-0 to the Italian.
Krejcikova puts the return long off the Paolini first serve, and that’s been key. She’s made sure she gets more returns in playing and is able to build more from the baseline.
Saying that, Krejcikova thumps a look at the second serve but Paolini is able to get so much weight behind er backhand. It overturns the rally, and Krejcikova fires out!

Wimbledon 2024: *Jasmine Paolini 2-6 4-2 Barbora Krejcikova
Much more like it from Krejcikova as she finds an ace down the middle to move to 40-15 on serve.
But how about that from Paolini?! A flying forehand off the return, straight down the line for a clean winner!
She blocks the next serve from Krejcikova up the middle, but it drifts long.

Wimbledon 2024: *Jasmine Paolini 2-6 3-1 Barbora Krejcikova
Wow – is this getting to Krejcikova? The Czech makes two double fautls in a row at the start of the fourth game, then Paolini paints the line with a forehand winner crosscourt, sending up a puff of chalk!
Two break points: Krejcikova saves the first as Paolini chucks a forehand long. And the second is saved too with Paolini netting on the backhand from out wide. Deuce: and a third error in a row from Paolini.
This would be a boost for Krejcikova. Paolini long again on the backhand! That was a big chance for the Italian.

Wimbledon 2024: Jasmine Paolini 2-6 3-0 Barbora Krejcikova*
Wow. Momentum swing much? Paolini pastes a forehand winner onto the line and moves to 40-15 on serve, bidding for a third game in a row.
But then, Paolini finds the net on the forehand and with Krejcikova on the baseline, can’t clear the net with the drop shot.
Deuce. WHAT A POINT! Paolini goes for the deft angled volley at the net, but Krejcikova somehow reaches it, hanging up the lob. Paolini can’t produce the overhead and sits the baseline with her head in her hands!
Berak point: Paolini saves! Deuce again. The crowd is desperate for Paolini here, in thrall at the power coming off her racket. Paolini digs in and holds as Krejcikova hits the net post with the backhand!

Krejcikova responds with a big serve up the middle, then another out wide. But that’s brilliant play on the baseline from Paolini! She draws the error from Krejcikova into the net and will get a look at two break points.
Serve out wide from Krejcikova… but Paolini returns and the Czech nets!
Where did that come from?! Paolini breaks and gets a lifeline in this final – and Centre Court loves it!
