TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 3. A Climate
Council will be established under the President of Uzbekistan,
Trend reports via
the nation’s Ministry of Justice.
The relevant decree was signed by President Shavkat
Mirziyoyev.
The council is designated as the highest advisory body to the
President on issues related to mitigating and adapting to climate
change.
Its main tasks include monitoring Uzbekistan’s compliance with
obligations under the 1992 UN Framework Convention on Climate
Change and the 2015 Paris Agreement, which was adopted to enhance
the implementation of the convention.
According to the decree, the National Center for Green
Transformation and Climate Change Adaptation has been renamed the
National Climate Change Center (Climate Center).
The Climate Science Forum (Climate Residency) will be
established at the Central Asian University for Environmental and
Climate Studies (Green University) to enhance scientific and
academic potential and develop fundamental research in the
country.
