Three prolific members of a nationwide burglary gang have been arrested after trying to escape from gardaí after a series of break-ins by swimming across a river.
The thugs are suspected of using a Golf car to carry out a series of burglaries in Westmeath with jewellery believed to be valued in the thousands of euros stolen.
