Taraji P. Henson Shares Plans For BET Awards
As The Shade Room previously reported, Taraji P. Henson will host the BET Awards for the third consecutive year, airing live on Sunday, June 28 at 8 p.m. EST.
Prior to her stage appearance, Taraji P. Henson shared with PEOPLE the surprises she has in store for the big night. Henson told the outlet that she plans to unveil a hidden talent only known to a few.
“I’m showcasing yet another talent that a lot of you don’t know that I can do. Some of you know, but not all of you. I just haven’t had the stage. I have, actually, once. But everybody didn’t see it. This is culture’s biggest night. The world will know.”
Taraji further revealed that despite hosting the BET Awards twice, she still gets a few jitters.
“I love nerves. I still get nervous. I get nervous on the first day of shooting. It’s a live show. Anything can go right or wrong, you know, but that’s what’s so exciting. That’s what I love about live theater. It keeps you on your toes.
Taraji also expressed her excitement about returning this year, promising viewers and the audience an incredible show.
“So, I’m really excited this year. It’s gonna be an incredible show. It’s culture’s biggest night. The performances are gonna blow us all away. We got Will Smith, guys. I am so excited to see what he has up his sleeve.”

The 2024 BET Awards is gearing up to be a lit night for the culture!
According to PEOPLE, BET announced on Friday, June 28, that six additional performers have been added to the lineup. The show will now see Childish Gambino, Chloe Bailey, Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Coco Jones and Marsha Ambrosius hit the stage.
The six singers join a stellar set of heavy hitters, including Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Will Smith, Ice Spice, Latto, Ms. Lauryn Hill, YG Marley, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Tyla, and Victoria Monet.
The star-studded night will also honor Usher with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his enduring musical legacy.
Culture’s biggest night will kick off the festivities with a two-hour red carpet pre-show at 6 p.m. EST on Sunday, June 30. The live ceremony will stream live from Los Angeles starting at 8 p.m. EST.
