Growing up, many of us heard stories from our parents about the struggles they faced just to get to school. For some students in Uttarakhand’s Munsiyari village, things have not changed much.
A video shared by journalist Tribhuwan Chauhan showed Class 9 students crossing a river using a rope trolley –– pulling themselves from one side to the other with no outside help –– to go to their school. Addressing the harsh reality, Chauhan says, “Aise hoga vikas. Yeh vyavastha hai dekho aaj 2025 me Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao ki (This is development, this is the arrangement in 2025 for Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.)”
The footage, later reposted by Brut India, reveals that the bridge connecting the area was destroyed in 2013 and is yet to be rebuilt. As a stopgap, rope trolleys were introduced a decade ago, and remain the only means of connecting nearly 70 remote villages to the outside world. The video has sparked outrage and heated debates online about the neglect of rural infrastructure, leaving many questioning why such conditions persist in an era of technological and infrastructural advancements.

The video has gained immense traction online, amassing over seven lakh views. Instagram users flooded the comment section with their reactions.
One user wrote, “Politicians buy choppers and luxury vehicles for their comforts and spends millions but with some millions they don’t want to construct a bridge. That’s shows the intention of how they are responsible for common public! Specially in Uk this is very hard to see public welfare intention of ruling government.”
Another user wrote, “Thanks to the one who made this video for awareness ….. And where is the government now ? In 2025 this cannot be the scenario …. Apart from this situation Jisko padne ki chah hai usko halat bhi nahi rok paye … Love you my Pahadi Girls !”
One user wrote, “Now you know your parents weren’t lying,” and another one commented, “Imagine the stories they will tell their kids.”
