Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for five counties: Carlow, Kilkenny, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford. The warning will come into effect at 2pm today and last until 8pm.
This morning will be dry with sunny spells before showers develop in Leinster and Munster this afternoon.
Rain will be heaviest in the southeast and south with spot flooding, lightning and hail possible.
It will remains warm and humid with light northerly or variable breezes, highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees are expected.
Showers will die out tonight and it will become dry with clear spells as temperatures reach lows of 7 to 10 degrees.
Monday morning will be mainly dry with sunny spells, though showers will develop in the afternoon and evening, becoming heaviest and most frequent in Ulster, Connacht and west Munster.
Thunderstorms, spot flooding and hail remains possible as highest temperatures reach 19 to 23 degrees.
Met Éireann says the coming days remain changeable with showers or longer spells of rain, it will turn cooler and less humid from midweek.
There will be scattered showers on Tuesday morning that will become widespread and heavy during the afternoon with spot flooding, lightning and hail possible.
Highest temperatures will reach 16 to 19 degrees, dropping slightly to 14 to 18 degrees on Wednesday when there will be a mix of sunshine and showers, some possibly heavy.
Thursday will be dry in the west, while more persistent rain will hit eastern counties and gradually spread westwards later.
Temperatures on Thursday are expected to reach 12 to 15 degrees. while Friday could see highs of 15 to 18 degrees.
“Current indications suggest that Friday will bring showers or longer spells of rain with some brighter intervals possible,” Met Éireann forecasts.
Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees are expected, with the weather likely to remain unsettled next weekend with rain at times.
