For more than a decade, Charles Spencer’s three oldest daughters, Lady Kitty Spencer, Lady Eliza Spencer, and Lady Amelia Spencer, have found clever ways—including their own takes on the “revenge dress” —to memorialize their late aunt, Princess Diana. In the March edition of Tatler, the trio of model/influencers posed for their first joint magazine cover wearing gowns by Balenciaga. And in the accompanying profile, the sisters discussed their unusual upbringing and open up about mental health, while praising only one of their royal cousins.
Alongside Prince William, Kitty is following in Diana’s footsteps as an ambassador for homelessness charity Centrepoint, which counted Diana as its royal patron until her death in 1997. “I think she put the name out there. Centrepoint has been a cherished charity that my family and I have supported for many years,” Kitty said. “I’m extremely proud of my cousin Prince William for all he does and continues to do to support Centrepoint and the vital work they provide to homeless young people.” William has been Centrepoint’s royal patron since 2005, and in 2023, he founded another charity, Homewards, to promote collaboration among the UK’s social service sector with the goal of ending homelessness five years.
Kitty, age 34, married businessman Michael Lewis in 2021, and is now mother of two-year-old Athena. Kitty said her daughter reminds her of twins Eliza and Amelia, both 32, and the family likes to keep in touch. “So there’s actually a triplet there for them,” Kitty said. “When the girls are on the phone and she doesn’t want them to go, she pulls out her whole repertoire of tricks.”
Amelia, who married longtime boyfriend Greg Mallett in 2023, told Tatler that their childhoods split between London and South Africa got them accustomed to traveling, which is helpful in their careers working with fashion brands. “We’re not exclusive with any particular brands,” she said. “It’s been an amazing year working with so many different design and jewellery brands. We’re able to travel, which really helps, I think.”
All three sisters currently live in Europe, but for the Christmas holidays, they traveled back to South Africa to visit their mother, Victoria Aitken, and brother, Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp, who still live in the nation. After Aitken and Charles Spencer divorced in 1997, the sisters remained in South Africa with their mother and are reportedly closer to her. In the Tatler interview, Eliza said their mother encouraged them to be open about their mental health and seek therapy, especially after Eliza lost teenaged boyfriend Chris Elliott in a car crash.
“I’ve seen a therapist for the last 17 years. I think everyone should have someone to speak to that’s outside of their inner circle,” Eliza said. It’s a privilege to be able to have someone to help you and support you and guide you.”
