Police in Gran Canaria have launched a search for a missing Irish woman who has not been seen by her family for two days. Detectives have taken the unusual step of naming Nicole Claire Ryan (46) in their “urgent” appeal for information on her whereabouts.
The search for Ms Ryan is focusing on the popular Puerto Rico tourist area in the south of Gran Canaria. Overnight the civil guard released a photo of Ms Ryan and a description of the clothes she was wearing. This morning a spokesman for the force confirmed she is Irish. It was not immediately clear if she was holidaying on the island or lives there.
“We were alerted to the 46-year-old woman’s disappearance on December 22nd by relatives who reported her missing at the civil guard station in Puerto Rico,” police said. “The co-ordinated search involves citizen security units based in the town of Vecindario in the southeast of the island working with other security and emergency forces.”
Police said officers in the port town of Mogan had also been informed of Ms Ryan’s disappearance.
She is described as 1.625m (5ft 4in), slim and fair-skinned with brown hair and green eyes.
She was last seen wearing a multicoloured animal print sweater, pink trousers and black trainers.
