Windsor police, joined by members of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, conducted a search under the ice in the partially frozen Detroit River on Thursday.
Few details about the search were available as of 5 p.m., but a section of the riverfront near the Ambassador Bridge was cordoned off with yellow police tape.
Several police vehicles, including a truck from the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, were stationed along the riverfront.
An OPP officer positioned an underwater robotic search device near the riverbank in Windsor. The recent cold snap froze the river sufficiently for police to walk onto the ice and deploy the device into the water underneath.
Neither the Windsor Police Service nor the Ontario Provincial Police have yet to respond to the Windsor Star’s request for more information.
