Ashburton’s Celtic Rugby Club had paid tribute to a talented senior player killed during a workplace accident on a Mid Canterbury farm on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called to a farm on Singletree Road at 10.10am, where “tragically a person was located deceased”, police said.
Worksafe has been notified.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson told the NZ Herald they were notified and responded with one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle but referred any further inquiries to police.
In a post on the club’s Facebook page yesterday, Celtic named him as Henry Wild.
“Our hearts go out to his family, teammates, team management and friends.
“Last night, we gathered at Celtic to share stories, and offer comfort to one another. Let’s continue to talk and hold each other up during this difficult time.
“Henry will always be remembered in our Celtic family for his skill, passion, humour and resilient spirit both on and off the field.”
Mid Canterbury Rugby also shared the post, writing they were “deeply saddened” by the news.
