“One down, two to go.” Vertical has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller film titled Dead Sea, formerly known as Flycatcher before the title change for its release. Is either title good? This hasn’t played at any film festivals, but it was picked up during an AFM sale a few years ago. Stranded in the open sea after a fatal jet ski accident, a young woman and her two friends are rescued by a fishing vessel’s captain, unaware that the ship harbors a chilling secret. From this trailer, it looks like it’s an organ harvesting vessel – this seems to be like Eli Roth’s Hostel but on a boat. Dead Sea stars Isabel Gravitt, Genneya Walton, Alexander Wraith, with Dean Cameron, Garrett Wareing, Al Burke, Brian Silverman, and Koa Tom. Set for the typical VOD right away release later in July this summer. Doesn’t look like there’s much to get excited about with this one, yet another generic horror with all the usual scary tropes and young women.
Here’s the official trailer (+ original poster) for Phil Volken’s film Dead Sea, direct from Verical’s YouTube:
A jet ski trip takes a tragic turn when a fatal accident leaves Kaya (Isabel Gravitt) and her friends fighting for survival in the middle of the open sea. Hope springs eternal when they are pulled out of the water by a fishing trawler. But the rescue turns out to be a deadly trap: the captain has a cruel plan that plunges the friends into a nightmare. Trapped on the murderous ship, Kaya must rise above to survive the cruel game and find a way to escape. Dead Sea, formerly known as Flycatcher, is both written & directed by American producer / editor / filmmaker Phil Volken, director of the films Garbage and Extortion previously, plus a few other short films. Produced by Nicholas Davidoff, Cameron Fuller, Rick Montgomery, Alina Shraybman, and Phil Volken. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Vertical will release Volken’s Dead Sea film in select US theaters starting on July 26th, 2024 this summer. Anyone into this?
