Day five of the Olympics has already seen a Team GB medal rush, starting with the women’s and men’s triathlon events to kick off another busy day at Paris 2024.
Alex Yee turned his Tokyo silver into a spectacular Paris gold with a scarcely believable comeback in the men’s triathlon, which had to be postponed yesterday after failing safety tests due to pollution in the River Seine, just after Team GB’s world champion Beth Potter took a gutsy bronze in the women’s triathlon amid treacherous conditions.
Shortly after, the women’s quad sculls rowers added to the GB haul with an incredible comeback of their own to pip the Dutch boat to gold on the line. Meanwhile, in diving, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson won a resilient medal in the women’s 10m platform synchro, coming from behind to win bronze on their final dive, while BMX freestyle star Kieran Reilly secured a stunning silver at Place de la Concorde.
This evening, Katie Ledecky returns to the pool looking to extend her dominance in the women’s 1500m freestyle and claim her eighth Olympic gold, while there is an exciting battle in the gymnastics hall as the men’s individual all-around final pits defening champion Daiki Hashimoto of Japan against China’s Zhang Boheng. Joe Fraser and Jake Jarman also feature for Team GB.
And Spanish duo Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz are in tennis action in the men’s doubles quarter-finals.

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final
It’s superb from Zhang Boheng, a punch of the air as he lands the dismount with aplomb. Surely he can’t snatch this after falling on his head during his second tumble on the floor?

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final
Daiki Hashimoto finishes in style, though the damage to the defence of his title was done with that topple off the pommel horse earlier. He goes into cheerleading mode, roaring on Shinnosuke Oka as Japan look to deny China gold again. 14.400 for Hashimoto – Joe Fraser finishes ahead of the defending champion.
What can Oka do? A silken routine that Hashimoto gives an approving nod to, perhaps lacking the funky flashes of others but executed delightfully. 14.500 – he’s into the lead. Only Zhang Boheng can deny him, and he needs a 14.869 to take Olympic gold.

Olympics 2024: Men’s tennis doubles
Nadal/Alacaraz 3-6, 1-1* Krajicek/Ram
At the start of the second set both sets of players have managed to hold their serve. There could still be a way to go in this match.

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final
Illia Kovtun peers across at the horizontal bar, his work done. Can Xiao Ruoteng get past him? Yes, the Chinese gymnast producing just enough on the high bar and nailing his dismount to snatch the lead by 0.199.

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final
A 14.266 for Fraser – it’s good, but probably not good enough for a medal.
And not after that from Illia Kovtun on the floor. A 14.700 is second only to Jake Jarman today in the discipline and takes him clear of Fraser among the early starters in this final rotation.
Jake Jarman follows his teammate on to the bar, hoping for a miracle with a lower tariff. It’s not to be, a 13.333, which allows Fraser to take the battle of the Brits.

Olympics 2024: Men’s tennis doubles
Nadal and Alcaraz were broken for a second time, putting the first set firmly in the hands of the Americans.
The crowd had almost fallen silent when it was the United States pair’s chance to serve for the set.
Nadal and Alcaraz managed to set up a break point, but the Americans were just too strong at the net and took the game to deuce.
But instead it’s Ram and Krajicek pair who take the first set, and it’s been pretty comfortable. The first set only lasted 43 minutes

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final
Right – to the high bar. Joe Fraser is first up of the last group. It’ll need to be fantastic to earn him a medal, and it’s a strong start, winding it up with impressive dynamism as he twice releases his hands. Pike catch, straddle catch, everything nice and smooth. How is the dismount? Incredible! What a routine from Joe Fraser! We wait for the score, but that is outstanding.

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final
It’s not to be for Oleg Verniaiev, who knows he can’t match the skillset of some of his rivals on the horizontal bar and thus throws everything he has at it. A few loose moments, including having to steady himself with a bent elbow, will limit his scoring potential: 12.700. His teammate pounces, Illia Kovtun more than a point better and taking the lead in the battle of the Ukrainians.
Above them both, though, is Zhang Boheng, a scintillating routine on the parallel bars sending him scooting up to the top of the leaderboards. Can the British pair stay in touch? A score of 14.933 is excellent from Joe Fraser, and Jake Jarman’s 14.300 is an increase on his score in qualifying, too. They are there or thereabouts but will need to go well on the horizontal bars, particularly with Xiao Ruoteng continuing his very consistent showing with another competent outing.
Top of the pile, though, is Shinnosuka Oka, showing no nerves with the 20-year-old on the hunt for a second gold of this Games after team success on Monday
Men’s al-around final standings after five of six rotations
1 Shinnosuke Oka (Japan) 72.332
2 Xiao Ruoteng (China) 71.998
3 Zhang Boheng (China) 71.966
4 Illia Kovtun (Ukraine) 71.465
5 Joe Fraser (Great Britain) 71.266
6 Jake Jarman (Great Britain) 71.232

Olympics 2024: Men’s tennis doubles
We will be sticking with the tennis, but it’s time for Nadalcaraz as they have become known.
We will pick it up with the Spanish duo surprisingly 2-4 down in the the opening set to the fourth-ranked seed from the United States.

Olympics 2024: Women’s tennis doubles – Boulter and Watson win!
The Brazilian pair came back into it to hold a game and make it 5-4, so Britain were given the chance to serve for the match.
Boulter started well and they quickly took a 30-0 lead.
They didn’t take it at the first opportunity, but with their second match point, the ball was hit long and Boulter and Watson were able to celebrate.
They claimed the match in two sets to the delight of the British supporters in the crowd.
