After a brief exchange, the driver fled the scene, striking the officer. Emergency crews responded and the officer was taken to hospital. The officer has since been released from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The suspect driver is being identified as 57-year-old Tobin Peter Haas of Vancouver.
The vehicle Haas was driving has been found, but Haas hasn’t.
Haas is wanted on an outstanding warrant for a break and enter in Port Moody as well as for questioning regarding the hit-and-run.
Members of the public are being told to not approach Haas, but to instead phone their local police if he is seen.
“Our thoughts are with our officer and his family as he recovers at home, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Delta P.D., Surrey RCMP, Surrey Police Service, and other responders for their quick actions and assistance as this incident unfolded,’ said Insp. Brian Donaldson, OIC of South Coast B.C. Highway Patrol.
“We are asking you, Mr. Haas, to please do the right thing and turn yourself in.”
Haas was previously found guilty in May 2021 in Vancouver provincial court of dangerous operation of a vehicle and fleeing from police.
