La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have formally rejected Barcelona’s request to re-register both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in their squad for the remainder of the season.
The pair’s initial registrations expired on December 31 and Barcelona failed to raise the required funds to re-register both Olmo and Victor before the deadline. League rules state teams cannot register players once their initial terms have expired.
Despite what appeared to be huge optimism from Barcelona about finding a way around the ruling, La Liga have now formally ended the club’s hopes of being handed renewed licenses for Olmo and Victor.
“Following compliance by FCB with the requirements regarding LALIGA’s financial control on 3 January 2025 and the Club completing the relevant documentation, LALIGA’s Budget Validation Body has decided to extend the FCB Sports Squad Cost Limit from the aforementioned date,” a statement began.
“In this regard, having been requested the licenses for the referred players by FC Barcelona, after analysis of the applicable federation regulations, the Monitoring Committee agrees not to grant the prior visa, nor the definitive license requested by FC Barcelona for the players Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Victor Delgado in accordance with the literal interpretation of articles 130.2 and 141.5 of the General Regulations of the RFEF that prevent a player whose license is cancelled, from being able to obtain a license in the same club team to which he was already linked, during the course of the same season.”
It means neither La Liga nor the RFEF will grant new registrations to Olmo and Victor, leaving Barcelona forced to try their luck in front of a court once again.
