Police say a homicide investigation is under way following the death of a man in Pakuranga Heights this morning, August 19.
At about 6.45am, police responded to reports of several gunshots heard on Marvon Downs Avenue.
Upon arrival, a man with a gunshot wound was located inside a vehicle, and despite efforts from first responders, he died at the scene.
Detective Inspector Shaun Vickers of Counties Manukau CIB says the investigation is in the early stages to determine the full circumstances of what has occurred.
“The community can expect to see an increased police presence in the area today and in coming days as we work to piece together what has led to this and who is responsible.
“We are continuing to speak to a number of people in the area at the time and are keen to hear from anyone who hasn’t already spoken with us.”
Enquiries to locate the persons believed to be responsible remain ongoing.
Vickers says a post-mortem examination and formal identification of the victim will be carried out over the coming days.
