A 19-year-old woman was arrested in Gujarat’s surat for allegedly strangling her 8-year-old sister-in-law to death in a fit of rage after the child refused to take care of the former’s infant.
The victim, Sakshi More, was reportedly strangled by her cousin’s wife Pooja at their house in Bhesan on Saturday evening.
According to a report by The Times of India, Pooja’s four-month-old boy was getting cranky while she was doing some domestic chores. She asked Sakshi to babysit the infant for some time while she completed the chores, but the minor refused.
Frustrated by this, Pooja started beating Sakshi. When the child threatened to complain about the act to Pooja’s mother-in-law, she got more annoyed.
The child then tried to escape from Pooja’s clutches, and in a fit of rage, the young woman strangled her with a metal chain and a thick thread that she was wearing on the neck, the TOI report cited police as saying.
Sakshi died on the spot due to suffocation. Pooja then shifted her body to a room and lay her on a bed.
When Pooja’s mother-in-law Ratna Kadhare returned home in the evening, she found Sakshi sleeping in the room. Sakshi was the daughter of Ratna’s elder sister Vaishali.
Ratna tried to wake up Sakshi, but when the child did not respond, she alerted her husband and son. The family called 108 ambulance and took Sakshi to the civil hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Bhestan police was also informed about the unnatural death. Pooja, who had kept mum about the crime till then, got scared after the police’s involvement.
She confessed to the crime in front of her family late at night, following which Ratna approached police and turned her in.
Pooja is the wife of Ratna’s son Indrajit. The couple got married a year ago and had a son four months ago.
