A friend of the Robinson family has begun crowdfunding to bring the bodies of executed West Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson back to Australia from Mexico.
The GoFundMe’s organiser JT FitzGerald asked those hoping to pay tribute to the brothers to contribute to the costs accumulated in identifying and retrieving Jake and Callum’s bodies.
On Tuesday morning, the crowdfund had raised $US231,000 (A484,000) of a $US250,000 goal.
A rough estimate of expenses sets aside $US20,000 ($A30,000) for the costs of parents Martin and Debra Robinson’s travel to the US and Mexico.
Another $US40,000 ($A60,000) was estimated for the return of Callum and Jake to Australia, with the necessary hiring of funeral directors.
And $US37,000 ($A56,000) was set aside for additional administrative and funeral service costs.
The remainder will go towards supporting the Robinson family in the aftermath of the brothers’ deaths.
“The family has incurred some large bills already that will need help,” the statement reads.
“In addition to those above there will be the costs of winding down Callum’s USA presence such as lease breakage or transport of his belongings.”
Contributors to the fund used the platform to pay tribute to Jake and Callum.
“I had the pleasure of working with Jake for a few weeks before he went to America,” donor Holly Smith said. “From the short time I knew him, it was obvious that he was kind, warm and adventurous.”
“He was always smiling! A great guy, with a bright future ahead of him. Absolutely heartbreaking to hear this news, sending all of the love in the world to his family and friends.”
Contributors spoke of crossing paths with Callum through his lacrosse career.
“I am very grateful for the time spent with Callum,” donor Patrick Resch said. “It was an honour to share the lacrosse field with him, and his passion and energy for life off the field was contagious.”
“The impact he had on so many lives is clear and not at all surprising. Thinking of the entire Robinson family.”
A second GoFundMe has been established to support the partner of deceased friend Jack Carter Rhoad and provide funds to charities and scholarships that Mr Rhoad had supported in the past.
It was established by Aubrey Byers, a friend of Mr Rhoad and his fiancee Natalie Weirtz. The fundraiser has sourced $US51,000 ($A77,000) at the time of writing.
“In the wake of the heartbreaking loss of Carter Rhoad, Callum Robinson, and Jake Robinson, our hearts ache with grief for their families, friends, and community,” Ms Byers said.
“Their presence brought immeasurable joy, love, and kindness to those around them, leaving a mark on our lives.”
Mexico police allege the Perth surfers and Mr Rhoad were shot in the head by locals attempting to steal the tyres from their pick-up truck.
Mexican authorities have arrested three people – Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota, Ari Gisel García Cota and Cristian Alejandro García – who were all allegedly found in possession of drugs.
The three bodies were reportedly hidden in a well covered with boards near their campsite.
Martin and Debra Robinson have formally identified the bodies of their sons.
Callum and Jake reported missing after they failed to show up at their Airbnb in Rosarito, a coastal city in Baja California about a 45-minute drive south of San Diego.
