Election 2024 updates: Kamala Harris’ VP search enters final countdown

Swing voters aren’t buying what Senator JD Vance is selling, according to a Republican strategist.

Sarah Longwell is director of Republican Voters Against Trump — a group of conservatives who do not support the former president — and says she has spoken to swing voters and that their overwhelming response to Vance is thinking he is a “phony.”

“The thing that is killing JD Vance is that voters, and I have listened to tons of swing voters since he was picked, and they don’t like him at all, they think he seems like a phony,” she told MSNBC’s Inside with Jen Psaki.

Seemingly attempting to get ahead of the publication of a forthcoming article in The New Yorker magazine, RFK Jr posted a video on X recounting the tale to former sitcom actress Roseanne Barr.

In the three-minute clip, RFK Jr claims he had set out from the Big Apple in October 2014 to spend a weekend falconing with friends in upstate New York, when he saw a motorist ahead of him hit the bear with her car.

The cub was killed instantly, he says.

Kamala Harris will officially announce the choice of her running mate on Tuesday morning, according to CBS News.

Multiple sources familiar with her campaign’s plans told the news outlet on Monday that the announcement will be made in the morning, followed by a campaign video being released before the pairing campaign together in Philadelphia later in the day.

Donald Trump and JD Vance head into August beset by a number of problems: the sudden withdrawal of Trump’s main opponent, Joe Biden, and the elevation of Kamala Harris as the new Democratic nominee, for starters. But through the end of July, in the days following the GOP convention in Milwaukee, much of the coverage surrounding the Republican ticket has concerned past comments made by Vance, the vice presidential nominee.

In those comments, some made quite recently before he officially entered political life, Vance repeatedly railed against “childless” women who supposedly run America (and particularly, he argued, the Democratic Party).

Ellis, who reached a plea deal with prosecutors in Georgia in a similar case last year, was among 18 defendants in an investigation into a Republican-backed plan to subvert Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in the state and deliver the state’s 11 electoral college votes to Trump instead.

“This agreement represents a significant step forward in our case,” Attorney General Kris Mayes said in a statement on Monday.

“I am grateful to Ms Ellis for her cooperation with our investigation and prosecution. Her insights are invaluable and will greatly aid the State in proving its case in court,” Mayes added. “As I stated when the initial charges were announced, I will not allow American democracy to be undermined — it is far too important. Today’s announcement is a win for the rule of law.”

UNITE HERE, the hospitality workers union, has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race against former President Donald Trump.

Union president Gwen Mills said Trump’s promise of making tips tax-free was just a “play” for votes while Harris has more substantially supported unions.

The endorsement means that the union is committing to having its members knock on more than 3.3 million doors in key states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, Arizona, and North Carolina.

The pool of vice presidential contenders for Kamala Harris has narrowed to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, according to Reuters.
