The Calgary Stampeders have re-signed American defensive back Branden Dozier.
The six-year veteran had been eligible to become a free agent on Feb. 13.

Dozier, a 30-year-old native of Topeka, Kan., made 16 starts for the Stampeders during the 2023 Canadian Football League season, including 11 at safety and five at the strong-side linebacker position. He made 63 tackles — including four tackles for a loss, seven special-teams stops and two sacks — two fumble recoveries — including one that he returned for a touchdown — and six knockdowns.

The 5-foot-10, 200-lb. former star of the NCAA’s UNC Charlotte 49ers also started the Western Semi-Final and made four tackles.
In 88 career regular-season games for the Stampeders, the Montreal Alouettes and the BC Lions, Dozier has 352 defensive tackles — including nine for losses — 71 special-teams tackles, five sacks, eight interceptions and three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 21 knockdowns.
Dozier originally signed with the Stampeders in 2020 and has played 37 games over three seasons for the Red and White.
PLATEL JOINS STAMPS
Another defensive back inking a deal with the Stamps is Carlins Platel.
Platel, a 24-year-old native of Brooklyn, N.Y., attended training camp with the National Football League’s Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022 and signed with the United States Football League’s Philadelphia Stars in 2023.
In college, Platel played his senior season with the NCAA’s South Carolina Gamecocks. In 12 games, including seven starts for the Gamecocks, he had 21 tackles — including 2.5 for losses — one sack and two forced fumbles, to go with two passes defended.

The 6-foot-1, 194-lb. defensive back transferred to South Carolina after three seasons at Assumption, a Division II program in Worcester, Mass. He was a first-team Northeast-10 Conference all-star in 2019 with the Greyhounds and made the all-rookie team in 2017. In 33 games at Assumption, he had 96 tackles — including two tackles for loss — one sack, seven interceptions one pick-six, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and 37 passes defended.
PASS-CATCHERS CATCH ON
Also signing on with the Red and White were three American receivers in Dontario Drummond, Cameron Echols-Luper and Jaquarii Robinson.
The 26-year-old Drummond signed with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys in 2022 and saw pre-season action for them in both 2022 and 2023, making eight catches for 113 yards.
In college, the 6-foot-1, 212-lb. native of Laurel, Miss., played 34 games over three seasons with the NCAA’s Mississippi Rebels and had 114 career catches for 1,633 yards and 15 touchdowns. As a senior for the Rebels, he established career highs with 76 catches for 1,028 yards and eight majors.
Drummond transferred to Ole Miss after producing 95 catches for 1,466 yards and 21 touchdowns in two seasons at East Mississippi Community College. He helped the Lions win the national junior college both years.

Echols-Luper, 28, has previously been on CFL practice rosters — with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2018 and with the Lions in 2019. In 2022, he signed with the USFL’s New Jersey Generals and in two seasons with the club he had 26 catches for 333 yards and two touchdowns, three carries for 24 yards and one score, 32 kickoff returns for 935 yards and one major and nine punt returns for 32 yards.
The native of Ennis, Texas, played his senior college season with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, and in 10 games, he made 42 receptions for 473 yards and four touchdowns and also had 18 kickoff returns for 390 yards, two carries for six yards and one pass completion for 39 yards. In 2016, he played with the NCAA’s Arkansas State Red Wolves and had 26 catches for 407 yards and one touchdown.
The 6-foot, 195-lb. Echols-Luper started his collegiate career with two seasons for the NCAA’s TCU Horned Frogs. In 23 games for Texas Christian, he had 13 catches for 93 yards. Echols-Luper also competed in track at TCU, including the 200-meter race and 4×100-m relay.
Roberson, 25, signed with the CFL’s Lions in 2023 and saw action in one pre-season game. He signed with the NFL’s Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and has spent time on the practice rosters of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams.
After being released by the Rams, the 6-foot-1, 186-lb. Boston native signed with the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks.
Roberson played college football with the NCAA’s Wake Forest Demon Deacons. In 34 games for Wake Forest, Roberson had 146 career catches for 2,158 yards and 17 touchdowns. He earned second-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference honours in his final season after achieving career highs with 71 catches for 1,078 yards. He was also second-team all-ACC in 2020 when he had 62 catches for 926 yards and eight touchdowns.
