Finally, Saoirse Ronan re-enters the awards season conversation. Earlier in the week, Ms Ronan received not one but two Irish Film & Television Academy (Ifta) nominations for her work in Steve McQueen’s elegant wartime epic Blitz, and Nora Fingscheidt’s searing biographical drama The Outrun.
It’s her central performance in the latter that impressed the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) judges, and today it was announced that Ireland’s greatest living actress would compete against Cynthia Erivo (for Wicked), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez), Demi Moore (The Substance), Mikey Madison (Anora) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths) for this year’s Best Leading Actress Bafta. A competitive group, but Ronan might just swing it.
