New Zealand’s Special Group was among the top agency winners at the Campaign Global Agency of the Year Awards, which were announced at a live ceremony in London for the first time.
Special won three awards on the night, including Creative Agency of the Year for the second consecutive year as did VCCP (UK), which counted Integrated Marketing Agency of the Year as one of its triumphs.
But it was Omnicom Media Group that had five reasons to celebrate. MG OMD (UK) took home a trio of gongs, including Media Agency of the Year and Agency Leader (Media) for CEO Natalie Bell, while OMD EMEA won Best Network (Europe) and OMD Worldwide scooped the coveted Global Media Network of the Year.
In the Asia Pacific Network of the Year category, The Weber Shandwick Collective prevailed, gaining strength from its high percentage of Asian-based brand clients. Special Group took the silver, while TBWA was also shortlisted.
More than 160 guests from around the world attended the black-tie dinner event at the Carlton Tower Jumeirah hotel in London on 13 June.
In the indies section, Rethink, from Canada and the US, was triumphant as Independent Agency of the Year (Creative), while Australian shop Atomic 212° took the media equivalent.
Ogilvy won Global Creative Network for the second year in a row, beating DDB Worldwide, FCB and McCann Worldgroup to the title.
Gideon Spanier, UK editor-in-chief of Campaign, said: “Many congratulations to the winners of the Campaign Global Agency of the Year Awards. These awards matter because they are judged by global marketers who care deeply about the role that agency partners play in the advertising and marketing eco-system.
“It takes creativity, talent and a relentless appetite for innovation for an agency to invent and to keep reinventing for its clients—and it was inspiring to see these qualities in abundance among this year’s winners.”
Now in their fifth year, the global awards are judged by a panel of global and regional chief marketing officers, led by Betsey Chung, a veteran global chief marketing officer, who has held a range of senior marketing and finance roles at brands including TD Bank Group, BMO, Aviva and American Express. The process was audited by PwC.
