My idea of a perfect escape is one that satisfies my adventure-seeker side, while also offering pockets of luxury, relaxation and pampering. On my recent trip to Sun City, I got to experience all this and more.
Nestled in the North West province, Sun City was first opened in 1979. The iconic destination offers plenty of interesting experiences and entertainment opportunities.
Peace, bliss and luxury at The Cascades
Named for the waterfalls and calming pools that trickle throughout the property, the 5-star Cascades hotel is an oasis of calm in the midst of the Sun City Resort.
For my short stay, the spacious and comfortable Superior Luxury Room provided an atmosphere of peace and luxury.
The hotel’s excellent service was the cherry-on-top of my stunning hotel stay, and I also appreciated the fact that it is in close proximity to all the activities Sun City has to offer.

Quad-biking with a hint of wildlife
Different parts of Sun City offer adrenaline and adventure in equal doses, allowing visitors to enjoy activities which are fun, memorable and sometimes even daring.
As a moderate adventure-seeker, I made the decision to hop onto a 250cc Suzuki quad bike and embarked on an adventurous trail through the Letsasing Game Park.
Although parts of the rough terrain were slightly challenging to manoeuvre, being accompanied by experienced guides made me feel safe.
The journey was made extra special by some wildlife such as zebra, wildebeest and giraffes as they meandered through the bush.
Exploring the fast growing racket sport
Like most people, I had recently been intrigued by the trending pastime powerhouse which was seemingly on everyone’s lips…and schedules.
In search of a fun and relatively relaxed activity, I played padel for the very first time at Sun City’s world-class courts.
As someone who has flirted with tennis in previous years, I will admit that the comparatively soft approach required by padel took some getting used to. However, I eventually found my rhythm and enjoyed the experience.
The iconic Valley of Waves
Of course, my experience at Sun City wouldn’t have been complete without some time spent at the Valley of Waves.
Stepping into the African fantasy-world centered on the exotic Legend of the Lost City was nothing short of fascinating. From lovely walks on the sandy beach to thrilling water adventures, the attraction is one I would highly recommend for memorable family getaways.
If you are an adrenaline junkie in search of more heart-racing experiences, the Chimp & Zee Rope Adventure Park is with trying.
It is suitable for people of all ages and offers the chance to view the Valley of Waves from above while up in the trees crossing an elevated obstacles course.
Spa spoils and pampering
When all is said and done, I am a firm believer in spa visits and all things pampering. I also believe there is no other perfect way to seal off a good getaway.
My experience at the Gary Player Health Spa was everything I needed after a few days of adventure and fun in the sun. The spa offers a selection of beauty treatments and a relaxing spa pool.
I throughly enjoyed my full-body massage, and would recommend the spa to anyone seeking to tap into a world of tranquility and relaxation when in Sun City.
