Pullman Cape Town City Centre Review
Cape Town is consistently listed amongst the best and most beautiful cities in the world. It is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, diverse cultures, rich history and captivating blend of architectural styles, from Dutch colonial buildings to modern skyscrapers, reflecting its complex past and dynamic present. It is also home to umpteen exciting events throughout the year.
Our recent impromptu sojourn in the Mother City necessitated centrally located premium accommodation. Due to the popular Cape Town Cycle Tour taking place on that weekend, many of the city’s hotels were at peak capacity. Fortunately, we managed to secure bookings at the 5-star Pullman Cape Town City Centre, which also gave us the opportunity to experience one of Cape Town’s newest hotels.
Frequent international travellers may be familiar with Pullman Hotels and Resorts, a prestigious hospitality brand within the AccorHotels group, which caters to both business and leisure travellers, and can be found in over 40 countries around the world.
Previously a Radisson Blu Hotel, the Pullman Cape Town City Centre was rebranded in September 2023 when it was acquired by the Accor group, and is the first property under the Pullman Hotel and Resorts brand in South Africa. The hotel is located in the granite-clad Triangle House, a 104-metre tall architecturally-accoladed skyscraper, which ensures that all rooms benefit from natural light and fresh, coastal air through its triangular design.
The space between the ground floor and the 11th floor is occupied by the hotel and there are residential apartments from the 12th to 23rd floors. We stayed at the hotel with our teenage son, and our family shared a luxurious 2-bedroom suite which was quite convenient. My son enjoyed having his own room and we felt comfortable knowing that he was with us.
Our marine-themed rooms were modern and expansive with king-size beds, a coffee table and chairs, a mini-bar, high-speed wi-fi and huge flat-screen televisions with satellite channels. We also had a coffee machine. Customizable lighting and temperature settings added to the overall experience. The rooms overlooked the cityscape with glimpses of the sea and the mountains peeking through the buildings. They were so comfortable that once we had checked in, we had no desire to leave!
Each room had a spacious en-suite bathroom with double vanity basins and a walk-in shower.
We enjoyed our breakfasts at the hotel’s casual in-house restaurant overlooking the city streets which were filled with cyclists participating in the tour. The buffet contained a variety of specialty breads, pastries, juices, fruits, cereals and a pancake and waffle station. Eggs were made to order and there was a hot buffet station too.
Light meals are served at the Pool Bar and at the Sea Street Coffee Lounge which opens onto the street.
There are many renowned restaurants within close proximity of the hotel but if you decide to stay in for dinner, fine dining is available at the elegant Piano Lounge, which also features a self-playing piano!
No visit to Cape Town would be complete without exploring the myriad attractions that this vibrant city has to offer, and the Pullman Cape Town City Centre is a great base from which to do this from. Whether you’re exploring the bustling Bree and Long streets in the city centre, visiting the beaches, taking a leisurely stroll through the Bo-Kaap, or hopping onto the City Sightseeing Bus, the hotel’s central location ensures that you’re never far from the action. A daily complimentary hotel shuttle transports guests to and from the V&A Waterfront.
For business travellers, the hotel is close to the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Businesses are also catered for in-house with seven versatile meeting spaces which can accommodate both small gatherings and large events.
After a long day of exploring the Mother City or working, one can unwind at the gym while taking in panoramic views of the city or relax on the pool deck, a popular function venue, while the sun sets over Cape Town.
