It’s about an hour’s drive from Queenstown to Bendigo Station, at the head of Lake Dunstan. And on Friday, Minister for Resources Shane Jones was seen heading off on that trip.
It’s understood he was hosted at the station by Santana Minerals, an ASX-listed mining firm that has disclosed to investors an estimated $10 billion gold discovery at the Central Otago site. Now Santana – like other housing, farming, transport and mining firms developing complex projects – is trying to persuade ministers to be allowed to exploit it.
