The Windsor Express continue to build momentum

After dropping the first two games of the season, the Express have now won three in a row and eight of the team’s last nine games after Sunday’s 101-92 win over the Glass City Wranglers at the WFCU Centre.
“None of us was really rattled by that 0-2 start,” Express shooting guard Mike Bruce said. “We just needed to get our feet under us. Once we got a couple games, we knew that we were going to get it rolling.”

It was far from a perfect performance against the winless Wranglers, who scored five of the game’s first six points.
Windsor eventually opened a 20-point lead in the second half against Glass City, but the Express watched that slip to a single-digit lead late in the game before closing things out to move into sole possession of second place in the Basketball Super League.
“We have a lot more room to grow,” Express forward Tray Maddox said. “We have to get better at closing out games, we have to get better at starting games, rebounding, boxing out.
“If we buckle down on rebounding, boxing out and doing little things and staying disciplined, I think this team can go far. I think we can win a championship.”
Maddox was playing with the NBA G League’s Long Island Nets, but was waived in November and joined the Express. He believes the team will only get better the more they are together.
“We were still learning each other,” Maddox said. “We started to build that chemistry. We were kind of figuring out who we were. I didn’t know how any of these guys before and now we’re starting to build chemistry. I think our chemistry is building one per cent better every day. It feels a lot better when you’re figuring out chemistry and add chemistry and you’re still getting wins.”
Maddox paced the Express on Sunday with 27 points while Bruce finished with 26 points in 27 minutes. Latin Davis added 18 points and Jeremy Harris chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
“You always, as a coach, want to play better, you want to be able to execute for 48 minutes and there are some things we’re working on,” Jones said. “It’s going to get tougher for us this year and we have have to be able to play all the way through it and execute our offence, but a win is a win. We’re 8-3 now and we just have to take one step at a time.”
