UK consulting and engineering firm Wood has been awarded an FEED contract by the Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) for the development of Singapore’s second LNG terminal.
The expansion with the second terminal will add an estimated five million tonnes per annum of additional capacity. The new terminal will also secure the country’s growing energy needs as Singapore produces over 95% of its electricity from natural gas.
The project will feature an FSRU which will be the first such vessel that will be deployed permanently in Singapore. Intended to be located at the Jurong Port, the terminal will feature facilities for the transfer of regasified LNG from the ship to the onshore gas transmission network.
Mitsui OSK Lines ordered the FSRU for the project from South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean for about $413m and delivery in 2027. The Japanese firm will own, manage, and operate the FSRU. The vessel will have a storage capacity of 200,000 cu m and a regasification capacity of 5m tonnes per annum.
Wood will review the FSRU design and coordinate its integration into the onshore connecting infrastructure. Over 50 Wood employees based in Singapore will be involved in delivering the project, with experts in Ireland and Scotland supporting the marine infrastructure design and experts in Spain supporting the FSRU design.
It is worth noting that Wood supported SLNG with the engineering of the first LNG terminal which was completed in 2013.
