Two European tanker specialists have offloaded one ship each to Indonesia’s state-owned shipping giant, Pertamina. The Jakarta-based company had 98 ships in its fleet before its latest purchase.
According to sales registers, Evangelos Marinakis Capital Maritime has sold the five-year-old ice class 1A scrubber-fitted 109,900 dwt Alkinoos. At the same time, Emanuele Lauro-led Scorpio has sold a similar-sized, same-aged but slightly smaller LR2 tanker named STI Lily.
Various brokers attach different price tags to the two separate deals while pricing portal VesselsValue estimates that the Indonesian company had to pay close to $150m for both ships.
The ship Marinakis sold was built at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, while the STI Lily was constructed at New Times, both reputable Chinese yards.
This is the third purchase by Pertamina this year, which started the year reportedly forking out $86m for the three-year-old 157,000 dwt Bella Ciao.
Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), the shipping arm of the nation’s top energy producer, has outlined plans to grow its fleet to 500 ships by 2034, including vessels on charter.
