As well as the fab food, the redesign of the ground floor in Kenmare’s Park Hotel is worth a visit, says our critic
You’d almost need to have been living on another planet over the past few years to have missed the Brennan brothers, Francis and John, doing their thing on At Your Service, roaming the highways and byways of our little island with wheelie suitcases as they dragged dated guesthouses, hosts and hotels into the present day. After 40 years of running the Victorian mansion that is the 5-star Park Hotel in Kenmare, in 2020 they too embarked on a smart makeover of the ground floor, bringing in local boy, interior designer Bryan O’Sullivan who, with studios in London and New York, had done similar projects with top-notch spots like Claridge’s and the Berkeley hotels.
O’Sullivan’s mantra is “a new glamour” and he certainly achieved this, sprinkling stardust at the Park, transforming it into what is pretty well de rigueur nowadays — a lighter, brighter space, the walls now adorned with a stunning modern art collection. That done, the Park was sold to US-based Irish businessman and entrepreneur, Bryan Meehan and his wife Tara, with Bryan’s brother Mark, recently installed as customer relations director.
