Fox News host Jesse Watters told his fellow panelists on “The Five” Thursday that he needs to know if someone is gay because he is “soooo interested.” (Watch the video below.)
The riff produced cackles from cohost Greg Gutfeld, and a “What is wrong with you?” from cohost Jeanine Pirro. Watters’ remark came about while the panelists were discussing whether celebrities feel pressure to publicly pick a side in the 2024 election after Taylor Swift endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
Many of the panelists seemed to approve of Usher not bashing Donald Trump when Joy Behar of “The View” seemingly encouraged him to do so after he confirmed he was voting for Harris.
“The Five” cohost Dana Perino explained that she had a policy of “Don’t ask, don’t tell” when it comes to people’s political leanings, a reference to the law that silenced LGBTQ+ service members in the U.S. military.
“I don’t care who you’re voting for,” she said.
Watters went in a whole other direction.
“I don’t like ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell,’” he said in an exchange shared by Media Matters. “I need to know if someone is gay. I have to know ― and they should tell.”
“And if you don’t tell me, I know. And it’s OK, I want to know,” he continued.
Gutfeld playfully called Watters nosy and Perino chimed in, “Why do you need to know?”
“I’m soooo interested in it,” Watters replied.
“You know I meant politics, right?” Perino shot back.
“Oh yeah, me too,” Watters answered as the two laughed.
Watters has recently seemed especially preoccupied with proving his heteronormativity.
He recently questioned the masculinity of Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz for the way he drinks a milkshake and for how he waves and shakes hands.
He also suggested President Joe Biden wasn’t manly for eating an ice cream cone.
In another attempt to play provocateur, Watters facetiously claimed that scientists had said “that when a man votes for a woman, he actually transitions into a woman.”
