The biggest client of a ship kite system originally developed by Airbus has become such a fan that it has bought the company.
Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), via a newly created French subsidiary called Oceanicwing, has bought out Airseas, the manufacturer of the Seawing automated kite system.
K Line claimed today that Seawings can reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 20% and can be installed on any merchant ship.
Airseas is building a factory in Nantes to open by 2026 as the company looks to scale up to meet the demand for its kite system.
K Line, as the top customer, has already signed up for 51 installations.
