Aucklanders will be able to see behind the closed doors of Auckland Council, with a decision to open its frequent councillor policy ‘workshops’ to the public.
The decision to stop holding the workshops in secret comes after the Ombudsman raised concerns about councils using the set-up to keep deliberations out of public view, and recommended they should be opened. Such meetings were believed to be a key reason why trust in local body councillors was at just 45 percent.
