HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the holding company of South Korea’s largest shipbuilder, has unveiled new technology at Posidonia in Athens that reduces toxic gas emissions from ammonia fuel to nearly zero.
Ammonia-fuelled vessels are being developed by shipbuilders all over the world, however, the key has always been how to safely eliminate the toxicity of ammonia when used as fuel.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has debuted its proprietary integrated scrubber technology that absorbs emitted ammonia. The exhaust outlets have also been designed to be distanced away from where the crew resides.
Shipbuilders, basking in extremely long orderbooks, are anticipated to have a strong showing at this year’s Posidonia showcase. Posidonia 2024 is the biggest in the biennial event’s six decades of existence with organisers confirming that 2,030 exhibitors from 82 countries will be showcasing their offering at the Athens Metropolitan Expo.
